Introduction to the School of International Economics and Trade

In 1958, to meet the needs of the vigorous development of socialist construction and the demand for financial and economic management talents, Jiangxi's first undergraduate financial and economic institution with decades of experience in commerce and business education, Jiangxi College of Finance and Economics, was formally established. The predecessor of the School of International Trade and Economics, the Department of Trade and Economics, and its affiliated major in trade and economics were born. In 1995, the major was renamed as the Department of International Trade, and in July 1998, it was established as the School of International Trade and Economics. In June 2009, it was renamed as the School of International Trade and Economics.

Through the arduous efforts during the revolutionary period, the twists and turns in the post-founding exploration, and seizing opportunities in the reform and opening-up era, along with the steady development in the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the school has undergone a historic transformation from small to large, from weak to strong, and from scale expansion to quality improvement. Each generation of students in the School of International Trade and Economics has demonstrated the inherent qualities of assuming responsibilities and fulfilling historical missions through practical actions, and their spirit of dedication and excellence has been deeply ingrained in the school's culture. The evidence shows that every generation of students in the School of International Trade and Economics has taken on historical missions in their respective eras and contributed to the realization of the centennial dream of Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics.

The school has established five research institutions: the Belt and Road Institute, the International Commodity Price Research Center, Trade and Environment Research Center, the Modern Business Research Center, and the Global Governance and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Research Center (Shenzhen). It offers one doctoral program (International Trade), three master's programs (International Trade, World Economy, International Business), and three undergraduate programs (International Trade and Economics, E-commerce, International Business). Currently, it has achieved full coverage of national first-class undergraduate programs.

The school has a highly qualified faculty, with 50 full-time teachers, including 9 professors and 25 associate professors. There are 7 doctoral supervisors and 32 master's supervisors. The teachers have received honors such as the State Council Special Allowance, National Model Teacher, the Ministry of Education's "New Century Excellent Talents Support Program," and Jiangxi Province's "Young and Middle-aged Discipline Leaders." There are 19 bilingual teachers, including 17 who can teach entirely in English. Nearly 30 teachers with doctoral degrees from abroad or more than six months of international study experience teach courses covering all major subjects. The school has also invited teachers from the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan to enrich its faculty, forming an international teaching team.

The college has strong research strength. It jointly established the "International Commodity Price Research Center" with the Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Commerce. From 2011 to 2022, the college undertook a total of 40 national-level projects, such as the National Social Science Fund major bidding projects and National Natural Science Foundation projects, and nearly 160 provincial-level and horizontal projects. It published more than 60 papers in authoritative A-class domestic and international journals, including "Social Sciences in China", "Economic Research Journal", "Statistical Research", "the Journal of World Economy", and "Finance and Trade Economics" nearly 120 papers in international journals; nearly 80 books of various types, and has received over 20 instructions from national and provincial leaders.

The college adheres to the fundamental task of talent cultivation, continuously improves its talent training program, and explores reforms in training models and teaching methods. The "3+3 model of talent training oriented by professional qualities" was approved as a national talent training innovation experimental zone project in 2007.To cultivate students' innovative and entrepreneurial qualities and abilities, the school has established the International Trade Professional Characteristics Training and Assessment Laboratory and the Large Economics and Trade Multifunctional Comprehensive Laboratory. It has built more than 50 social practice bases and hired over 30 part-time supervisors. The school encourages students to actively participate in discipline competitions and gained significant achievements, having won more than 30 awards in disciplinary competitions above the provincial level, including the National English Competition for College Students, The "Challenge Cup", the Innovation Creativity Entrepreneurship, the National E-commerce Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition, and the Provincial Creative E-commerce Competition. For over six decades since its establishment, the school has trained more than 10,000 talents at all levels, and a large number of alumni have played important roles in politics, academia, and the business sector.

The school is committed to achieving the "double high" of employment for graduates, including both high employment rates and high employment quality, high rates and high quality of domestic further education, and high rates and high quality of international further education. The average one-time employment rate of graduates in the past three years is 89%, and the average conventional employment rate is 65%. Graduates who signed contracts with Fortune 500 companies accounted for about 25% of the total number of signed employment graduates. The domestic advancement rate of graduates has been increasing year by year, with the domestic advancement rate for the 2021 graduates reaching 24%, of which 38% went on to "985" and "211" universities. The rate of international advancement has been rising year by year, with admissions to more than 20 well-known universities worldwide, including the University of  Cambridge.
